The biggest festival in the Philippines held in honour of the Santo Nino, celebrating the origin of the island of Cebu – this is “Sinulog”.

This is one of the most important events in the religious history of the Philippines as it paved the way for the birth of Christianity in the country.

“Pit Senyor kang Mama kini!”, “Pit Senyor kang Papa kini!”

Such is the chant of the devotees’ offer to the miraculous Child Jesus.

Sinulog is a dance ritual performed to seek help to the Santo Nino and to thank Him for favors granted and blessings received. The dance is accompanied by the sound of the drums, moving two steps forward and one step backward which resembles the current of the river (Sulog).

Celebrated every third Sunday of January at the heart of Cebu, along with all the festive music and colors you will see in the streets, Sinulog can also be your gateway to more adventures in the Queen City of the South and experience the Cebuano culture and history on a more profound level.

From nightly shows at Plaza Independencia showcasing Cebuano Talents, watching different choreographed Sinulog dances from the youth at Sinulog sa Kabataan, flaunting Cebuana beauties at the Miss Cebu pageant, to the fluvial parade early in the morning and the solemn procession in the afternoon, thousands of devotees from all around Cebu flock to the city to witness and have a glimpse of the Child Jesus.

On to the main event, the day of Sinulog. This is when locals show off their creativity and fun side. Main roads are closed off for the Grand Parade and street parties are everywhere. So, join the locals, have fun, get your face painted and get a beer shower!
